Despite rainfall, public asked to continue to prevent wildfires

Despite recent rainfall, the Coastal Fire Centre is reminding everyone that the lower layers of the forest floor will still be dry and vigilance to prevent new wildfires is important. All but one of the 63 wildfires to-date this summer on the coast have been human-caused.

Campfires remain prohibited throughout the province, with the exception of the Haida Gwaii Forest District. Category 2 and 3 open burning is also prohibited for the entire province.

The free BC Wildfire Service mobile app provides notifications in real-time of wildfire activity within a selected geographic area. The photos and geographic information that the public have been submitting this summer using the “Report” feature have been helpful in ensuring quick response to wildfires.

You can also report a wildfire via the phone at 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 from a cell phone.
