Private Forest Landowners Association Supportive of Managed Forest Review
NANAIMO BC, May 28, 2019- The Private Forest Landowners Association (PFLA) today announced its support of the BC Government’s review of the Private Managed Forest Land Program. The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development recently announced it is seeking public input on where and how the program is meeting expectations, and what changes could result in improvements.
“We are very proud of the high standards to which the Private Managed Forest Land Program and our members operate but are always looking for opportunities to improve,”said PFLA CEO, Megan Hanacek. “The Private Managed Forest Land model is a proven partnership between forest owners and the provincial government to the benefit of all British Columbians.”
The Private Managed Forest Land model is results-based and regulated by the Managed Forest Council. In total, Private Managed Forest Lands are bound by over 35 different legislative regulations. Landowners make long term investments in land and management activities, and assume the associated risks, while the province offers stability in carrying costs and forest practices regulations.
“Private Managed Forest Landowners continually work to evolve the practice of sustainable forestry that protects key public values,” said Hanacek. “B.C. communities benefit from sustainable forests, healthy ecosystems and increased diverse economic activity.”
