2022 PFLA Conference Round-up

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Crown Isle Resort in Comox June 2-3 to attend the 2022 PFLA Conference, Field Tour and AGM. Discussions were productive, we learned about the latest research and practice of private forest land management, and the weather cooperated! We’re already looking forward to a Fall 2022 field tour in the BC Interior, and the 2023 Conference (location to be announced!).

We had a busy agenda this year, starting with a field tour on June 2, 2022 where we visited four locations in the Comox Valley: Sylvan Vale Nursery, Thompson Bros. Sawmill, Manulife Investment Management Tour, and 40 Knots Winery. The field tour gives us a chance to see first-hand examples of sustainable forest land management and value-added forestry practices.

On June 3, 2022 the Conference at Crown Isle Resort in Comox featured an outstanding list of presenters, including elders from the K’ómoks First Nation, a welcome from Hon. Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests, a keynote presentation by Jock Finlayson, Senior Advisor, Business Council BC, presentations on wildfire management, wildlife management and fuel management, climate change, and about the MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre, and government updates on the Managed Forest Review and the Watershed Security Strategy and Fund.

The two-day event provided a timely update on initiatives related to private managed forest lands and was a great opportunity to reconnect face-to-face with other PFLA members and the thought leaders in this field. We’re looking forward to announcing the date and location of next year’s Conference. Stay tuned!
