Support for BC Forest Workers
Multiple federal and provincial funding programs are currently offering support to BC’s forest sector, focusing on forest health, wildfire risk reduction, worker upskilling, and industrial innovation.
Provincial Grants and Programs
- Forest Investment Program (FIP): Invests roughly $95 million annually into provincial reforestation, ecosystem https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/forestry/supports-for-forestry-workersrestoration, and forest nutrient management initiatives.
- B.C. Employer Training Grant & Worker Support: Offers funding for self-employed contractors and forestry workers affected by industry shifts or tariffs to undergo short-term upskilling and skills training.
Federal Grants and Programs
- Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT): Accelerates technology adoption and innovative bioproduct manufacturing to make operations more sustainable.
- Indigenous Forestry Initiative: Boosts the economic participation, leadership, and capacity of Indigenous communities within the forestry supply chain.
- Global Forest Leadership & GCWood Programs: Supports international market diversification and promotes innovative wood use and mass timber construction.
