Invasive Species Month
Invasive Species Action Month (ISAM) 2023 is about generating awareness about invasive species in B.C. According to the Invasive Species Council of BC, Invasive species are the second greatest threat to biodiversity after habitat loss.
“[Invasive species] are a global problem, a Canadian problem, and a B.C. problem. Understanding their negative impacts on our environment, economy, and health, is a good first step in taking action to stop their spread.”[1]
This Invasive Species Month, the Invasive Species Council of BC is offering resources under four different themes, one theme for each week in May.
- Week 1: An urgent call to pet and aquarium owners – Don’t Let it Loose!
- Week 2: Gardeners, what’s growing on?
- Week 3: Keep adventuring but leave the invasive species behind.
- Week 4: Dusting off your fishing gear? Ready to drop your boat in the water?
